new york techno producer shawn o sullivan makes his return to l.i.e.s. under his vapauteen moniker. after an amazing release on avian as 400ppm and a collaborative effort on the corner with beau wanzer, here we get o sullivan turning down the bpms and slowly crushing everything in sight. the a-side provides three tracks of unforgiving modular slowcore beat electronics which trudge their way to the grave, while the b-side is strictly about power electronics and harsh tone work outs. sure to piss off someone on the internet or better yet, in real life.
just in time for this years festive celebrations, the imprint curated by merseyside edits maestro greg wilson returns with the tape-tapping talent of fingerman. real name gregg holmes, wilson first thought his fingerman pseudonym was inspired by a character from v for vendetta, the cult graphic novel by alan moore, but he was in fact so called after creating a weird stop motion video on a mobile phone about a shouting finger. thankfully his studio work is less peculiar: years of spinning techno in the mid-90s giving way more recently to an going love affair with funk, soul and disco nuggets.
puss is a new label from hnny and kornél kovács, pushing club ready dance tracks to tenderhearted discjockeys around the world. the first release came this spring, with hnnys simple yet devastatingly effective rnb refix *boy* and kornél kovács eerie dub version *yob* sharing one side each – for the follow up, hnny transforms a late 90s jam by wexford, pennsylvanias finest into an acid-tinged house jam in two different arrangements. as always with puss, each record comes with a unique real human kiss mark. expect more to come.
two techno heavyweights in the form of swiss producer pascal nuzzo and uk duo nhb come together for three fierce tracks on the !organism label. nhb can be considered one the of best recent revelations in minimal techno, where they found a place thanks to their experiences of the late 90s rave underground. nhbs philosophy has always been linked with the use of real synthesizers and drum machines and that shows here, whilst nuzzo has had plenty of big hits in various sonic realms over the last few years, from french filter house to edm to full on techno.

pomelos newest outing is delivered by the nyc based producer extraordinaire brendon moeller, a real master in the field of techno and dub, also well known for his productions under the monikers beat pharmacy and echologist.despite his 10 albums and over 50 singles released for some of the best labels out there, it is three of brendon’s strongest tracks to date that have made it on his reconcile ep. the ep’s title track promises a subtle fusion of house and techno through a loosly swinging techno groove, and duly delivers with echoing chord cascades and spluttering sound effects. machiavellian impulse picks up the intensity with a more direct, pounding beat, to which stuttering, spacious stabs add an element of deepness and dub. loudness sustain decay finally has a whole side to itself, starting out as a lofty house mover, with a pulsing wild pitch synths slowly adding tension until the track’s wild finale.

hitsafe are a duo of established producers operating under an enigmatic moniker. nothing new, you might say, and that is true. the music is so outstanding and unusual though, that in this case this approach really does make sense. serious jaw-work is funk in its purest form. and we mean real funk! wonder how many djs will have the guts and abilities to play this one out…to round this release up, we asked lopazz and casio casino for a remix and these guys came up with two! both are so good, we couldnt make a choice. so here we go with both of them on this release. the jack remix on a2 is a functional tech housy Überhit, suitable for all peaktime house floors, the jane remix on the b-side is a moodymanesque version with a strong ludicruous tendency, that has all necessary qualities to become a timeless epic. massive!
the remix package kicks off with a reworking from alexi delano who has recorded for poker flat, harthouse. items and things, plus 8 amongst others who takes the title track secret moon in a deep and spacious house direction with their superb mix that works from the off. l.a. artist david alvarado steps up next on kazantrip and drops a driving slice of brooding techno that is perfect warehouse material. last, and no means least, is the rather legendary d. digglers live dub interpretation. the urgent low end tribal nature provides a solid backdrop for the fluid elements of the original to drift over. this wax edition release is a rich & complex package of mixes with real depth and is another stellar single from the everimpressive klartraum and certainly worth to be pressed on lucid vinyl.
